Family Business

Founded in 1959 by Mike Gillen, the Gillen Company is a family-run and owned distributor of a full range of packaging items from steel drums to plastic pails to UN boxes. Mike Gillen, who worked in sales for a large corporation, wanted to branch out on his own. Mike returned to his hometown of Pittsburgh and created J.M. Gillen Company, which started out selling steel drums and metal paint cans. The company now offers some of the fullest lines of packaging in the region.



Mike’s son John Gillen joined the company in 1993 with a background in banking and consulting. For over 30 years, John has been running the company with the same dedication to quality and customer service that his father had instilled in the business. Gillen Company currently features 20,000 square feet of warehouse space with over $1 million in inventory in stock.
